About Us
The company was founded in Ottawa 2001 initially under the name GOYA Theatre Productions as a federally chartered not-for-profit corporation. The name was legally changed in 2015 to Maple Leaf Theatre Productions Inc.
Since its inception, in addition to the shows listed on this site for distribution, the company has brought to Ottawa audiences premieres of the following Canadian musicals: Anne and Gilbert, sequel to Anne of Green Gables, War Brides, Homechild, Vaudeville, Magic Man, and My Mother’ Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding by David Hein and Irene Sankoff, creators of the Broadway hit, Come From Away. Also we have presented various plays by Canadian award-winning authors.
The company was founded by Gordon Carruth, a Canadian playwright/composer, whose musicals and plays have been performed across Canada, the United States, in Scotland, Europe and Mexico on stage, radio and television.
He is a winner of a Canadian national ACTRA award for best dramatic writing, a DORA award finalist, and recipient of the Critics’ commendation at the Edinburgh Festival.
In addition to his activity as a writer, he was one of the founding directors of Hamilton Place, the internationally renowned 2,200 seat Arts Centre, and served as Chairman of the board of directors in its early years, fostering the inclusion of Canadian artists and their works in the theatre’s programming.
Mission Statement
Maple Leaf Theatre Productions’ mission is to foster the growth of Canadian theatre by producing, publishing and making available to professional and amateur theatre companies works of theatre both musical and non-musical written exclusively by Canadian playwrights and composers.
